hey,

i have been sitting on this newsletter since sunday and it’s time to get it out out out. oh. dubbya. tee. OUT! (bonus points if you know that cartoon reference). delaying sending on my end usually means i’m overthinking the intro so instead of turning my bullet points into full-on prose, i’m just gonna do a weird prose-bullet combo. here goes!

  • the liberation tarot kickstarter launched on monday! we have already hit our goal of $10k! we are at $22k now!!! wiiiiild. now that we’ve hit the goal, we’re just tryna make sure folks don’t miss their chance to pre-order a deck. spreading the word is still useful but sharing it specifically with 1 or 2 people you think would love it is more important than sharing it broadly with folks who maybe don’t really care lol. easy link to share here: https://tinyurl.com/LiberationTarot

    https://tinyurl.com/LiberationTarot

  • i wrote my 100th business check last week. happy 2 year anniversary to me for being a full-time consultant.

  • as soon as i hit send on the 29 june newsletter, i was wrecked with climate grief. i was on multiple calls that week with black women who were negatively impacted by smoke. and now with flooding in vermont and heat everywhere… i just… dang. i cried during several work sessions last week. even as i type, i can feel tears coming on. it’s so FUCKING sad that we are here. watching some of my outdoor plants crisp up with heat, talking to friends and farmers about how the freezes back in feb and may fucked up stone fruit this year (article 1, article 2). i just… idk. thankfully i’m past feeling numb or avoidant. now i just wanna cry all the time.

  • [insert bullet break for taking breaths]

  • one of my besties, jaco is taking a sabbatical and wants support. i love his writeup and would love if anyone out there is down to support him in ways he’s looking for. this is my spiritual brother, a twin flame if you will, and i love him v v much!

  • an Urban Farming Institute (UFI) staff member’s sister recently passed away. if you have funds to help them out, i’d appreciate it. they’re over halfway there.

  • some of yall remember my prison penpal, BJ, ya? well, he’s been out for a while now and life on the outside is hard. one thing we’re talking about that’d be helpful is having a PO box where he can receive mail consistently. i’m trying to raise $264 ($22/month x 12 months) to help him pay for one. i’m looking for support! if you’re game to contribute, can you send $22 or $44 (or however much feels good to you) to me via venmo? https://venmo.com/lawrence-barrinerii if we hit the total, i’ll return any additional money that comes my way (unless you put in your note you’d like me to send him the money regardless).

  • revival road farm hit their goal! thanks to everyone who donated and big congrats to siedric and anna! here’s their summer solstice newsletter if you wanna see what they’re up to.

  • my friend abraham is working on a campaign related to this new book on rich white men. check it out! www.tinyurl.com/RichWhiteMen.

“Rich White Men is a timely and piercing expose of how leading entrepreneurs, financiers, and philanthropists contribute to inequality and what we can do to generate more opportunity and prosperity.”

— Darren Walker, President of the Ford Foundation and author of From Generosity to Justice

quotes

there is nothing new under the sun. also, full transparency, many of these quotes come from james clear’s 3-2-1 newsletter (which i love).

There is and always will be a chasm between you and expected-you. What matters is not the size of the chasm or the nature of the chasm or anything else. What matters is how you manage it… — burnout, amelia and emily nagoski

Storytelling reveals meaning without committing the error of defining it. — Hannah Arendt

Sometimes all you need for exceptional results is average effort repeated for an above-average amount of time. — James Clear

An hour before 9 is worth 2 after 5. — Ali Abdaal

I know for a fact that we can’t heal or hurt alone. We must heal or hurt in relationship with other people. — mariame kaba

True humility, we believe, consists of two things. The first is knowing our limitations. And the second is getting the help we need. — moore and gillette, king, warrior, magician, lover

Buying your kids the best will never replace giving your kids your best. — James Clear

It’s easier to notice when you lose money than when you lose time. Be sure you’re making the trade you want. — James Clear

Our earth is round, and, among other things, that means that you and I can hold completely different points of view and both be right. The difference of our positions will show stars in your window I cannot even imagine. Your sky may burn with light, while mine, at the same moment, spreads beautiful to darkness. Still we must choose how we separately corner the circling universe of our experience. Once chosen, our cornering will determine the message of any star and darkness we encounter. — June Jordan

A happy life consists not in the absence, but in the mastery of hardships. — Hellen Keller

You can be relaxed and dedicated. Just because you worry more, doesn’t mean you care more. — James Clear

Highly focused people do not leave their options open. They select their priorities and are comfortable ignoring the rest. If you commit to nothing, you’ll be distracted by everything. — James Clear

What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, and our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow. Our life is the creation of our mind. — The Dhammapada
