lqb2weekly #171 (23 april 2022)
hey,
guess what? it was my birthday recently (april 16)! it’s my jesus year (33) and it’s already been 🔥 i’ve been celebrating by resting, reading, receiving and giving gifts, spending time with nibblings, revisiting old astrology readings and getting a new one, going for a float, going for a birthday hike with some close friends, and getting a massage! it’s been an excellent time.
if you are interested in helping me celebrate my birthday, i would LOVE if you helped make a community dream come true: please send a donation to the neighborhood birth center (or if that’s not your thing, watch the video below and share it with one person who you think would resonate with it!)
many of yall have heard me talk about nashira and the birth center before. the boston neighborhood birth center believes that “when pregnant people are centered, feel a sense of agency, and are fully supported in their power, birth has the potential to transform outcomes across a number of measures, and heal individuals, families, and communities for generations.” if you feel the desire to send me some love, i’d love if you redirected to nashira! (sidenote: you can also listen to nashira in season 1 of life radio)
if you text or email me happy birthday after getting this newsletter, i will ask you how much you donated (or if you watched the video) and if you didn’t i will be mad. texting me (at this point) is not a way i want to receive birthday love. yes, this is a boundary. no, you don’t have to donate. but if you want to text me, donate instead. fight me if you want. :P
next thing: here’s a quick link to episode 2 of enough is enough, the podcast mini-series me and my friend caroline released in january. in episode 2, me and my friend, sandra kim, get in deep. my fav part of the convo is sandra explaining a vision for resource interdependence that is just 🤩
final thing: THANK YOU to everyone who added to the seasonal problems doc. yall are brilliant. my fav addition is this summer problem - “I’m an outside kid doing inside work” lol got me! anyone is still welcome to add to the doc whenever so if this is your first time seeing it, add away!
here are few other cute lil links:
there’s still time to pre-order a love letter to the movement. it’s the book written by the founders of the coach school i was trained in and it is :fire emoji: may 15 is the release date so the window is closing (to be in the dope pre-order crew, that is)
these workshops about deep time liberation look epic.
i meant to put this witches and warriors retreat in my newsletter last time and i think i slipped on that somehow. if the name intrigues you, it’s probably for you. applications due april 30.
here are some cool public workshops from a rad, bookkeeping collective
finally, james clear asked this question in one of his recent newsletter and it’s been very very sticky:
If someone took control of your life tomorrow, what’s the first thing they would change?

quotes
there is nothing new under the sun.
Nearly everything in life has a useful zone, a desired dose. Ten minutes in the sun can energize you. Ten hours in the sun can burn you. This concept applies to many things: work, relationships, hobbies, exercise, food. What is your desired dose? What do you need right now? A little bit more or a little bit less? — James Clear
You cannot remove struggle from life, but you can improve your ability to handle challenge. — James Clear
When people think the same idea and move in the same direction, that’s a cult. When people think many different ideas and move in one direction, that’s a movement. — Loretta Ross
the pain which signals a toothache is a pain which saves your life…. — james baldwin
…embodiment: to have competencies or capacities and ways of being so deeply in your muscles and nervous system that they are available to you with little or no thought. — alta starr, Cultivating the Self Embodied Transformation for Artists
For those who expect everything, there are many curses.
For those who appreciate everything, there are many blessings. — James Clear
I started dividing my to-do list into 1) things I have to do, 2) things I want to do, and 3) things other people want me to do. Life changing! I often don’t get to #3 and I finally realized… this is what it means to have boundaries. — Jenée Desmond-Harris
Everyone writes in a way; that is, each person has a “story,” a personal narrative which is constantly being replayed, revised, taken apart, and put together again. The significant points in this narrative change as a person ages—what may have been tragedy at twenty is seen as comedy or nostalgia at forty. All children write. (And paint, and sing.) I suppose the real question is why do so many people give it up? — Margaret Atwood
Loving your enemy is manifest in putting your arms not around the man but around the social situation, to take power from those who misuse it–at which point they can become human too. — bayard rustin

those who give their thought — wendell berry

housing
my friend danya is looking for housing! please email me with leads and i’ll pass them along.
What we're looking for: 3 bedrooms (or 2 if it has an office space) 1-2 bathrooms Backyard (can be shared) Ideally we'd stay close to our East Arlington community but know that might not be possible. Looking in Arlington, Medford, Cambridge, Somerville, or nearby. Would love to be near a train. Would consider moving elsewhere or across a water body for the right place. Right now we pay $2500 in rent so would be looking for something not too much more than that to rent. Still figuring out what our budget would be to buy, but would consider either one unit in a multi family, a single family, or a multi-unit place with rental property we'd manage. PS: Near swings too, please - Noa

i am currently working on writing an essay for a tarot deck to be released this year: liberation tarot. you can check out some lovely previews and bios of the artists here and you can help support the fundraising here. here’s the fundraising ask from the website in case you don’t have energy to click through:
We are now looking to raise an additional $10,000 for the design and writing of the Liberation Tarot handbook! The handbook will include magnificent written contributions from emet ezell, Lawrence Barriner II, Elicia Epstein, and adrienne maree brown.
Can you help us reach $10,000 by May, 2022?
if you’ve got funds to help this project get over the finish line, here is where to send them. 🙃 i’m v excited. obvi.
